Do you have a sick or chronically ill friend or relative? Here is a small list of things YOU can do to make life better for everyone and change the world for the better!
Follow these simple steps and in no time you will be more appreciated you will appear like a more decent person.
1. Don’t act like it’s the persons fault they got sick. – if you are saying this or thinking this, stop it now! It only shows that you have little idea of the facts and haven’t done any research.
2. Stop trying to make the person’s illness invisible or not important. – it is hugely important to the person and has changed their life forever. Would you want your life changing events degraded or joked about?
3. They are doing their best, why not take a moment to Acknowledge it? – it won’t kill you. I promise. If you are the type of person that is proud when your partner or child does their best in an event or at school, why wouldn’t you be the type of person to show respect when a sick person does their best to keep going through very difficult circumstances? Think about it…
4. Don’t judge. – if it hasn’t happened to you, then you have no idea what it is like. Don’t pretend you do.
5. If you can feel for the plight of people you have never met, only read in the paper, or seen on the tv then why can’t you feel something for the chronically ill people who you actually know? Priorities!
If you don’t believe these things are not useful or will not make a difference to your relationship with your friend or loved one than I suspect the difficulty might be with you.
Perhaps you owe it to yourself to try.
Gentle hugs,
Trish
